Natural Cold Killers

Let me be the first to say that the flu, the common cold, and general run-down-ness, absolutely sucks! As somebody that works with children, I fully appreciate the frustration of any season that breeds and spreads germs but I have some fail-safes up my sleeves. For all those catching all the colds this season, here are some natural remedies to combat your colds and flus that might help you to stay healthy and happy for as long as you can.

Anytime that I catch even a hint of a bug, I switch out my coffee for a delicious, nutritious and beneficial cup of chai tea - with an added splodge of honey. Now, I have to point out that this is not a scientific blog by any stretch of the imagination, but honey and chai has never led me wrong and I swear by it. Honey is renowned for its antibacterial properties, it boosts the immune system, soothes a sore throat and is just super tasty. Adding that to chai tea in a delightful concoction offers a myriad of health benefits. Cinnamon, cardamon and ginger are all big players in chai tea and are all packed with antioxidants. They can also help lower blood sugars, reduce cholesterol and improve digestive health. This added to the caffeine content in black tea, which provides a gentle energy boost, are all wonderful things to supplement into your diet to help contribute to a balanced and healthy diet.

Green tea is another natural drink that is great in taste but also great in the battle to help you kill those cold and flu feels. It can boost metabolism and aid in relaxation. Green tea is commonly celebrated for its numerous health benefits, making it a popular beverage worldwide. Packed with powerful antioxidants called catechins, green tea offers potent protection against cell damage and inflammation, potentially lowering the risk of chronic diseases. Regular consumption of green tea has been linked to improved brain function, enhanced fat burning, and weight management. Moreover, its antibacterial properties can promote oral health, which can't be bad. Incorporating green tea into your daily routine can be a delicious and effective way to support overall well-being.

Lemon is another thing that everyone knows can help us out when we feel bad - though, it gives me flashbacks to my head under a towel over a bowl of hot water and lemon! However there are good reasons for these old school methods! Lemons are natural, nutritional powerhouses. They are rich in vitamin C, they have alkalising properties that help balance your PH levels, they can support and improve you skin and heart health and are refreshing bursts of flavour which tastes amazing. Ginger, as previously mentioned, is very good for us and has a plethora of benefits that help us to look out for our health, whilst still tasting great. Another drink that incorporates these two ingredients and will give you a specific powwow when your not feeling your best, is some Simply The Zest tea. A fusion of lemon and ginger herbal tea that can put a spring in your step and give you healthy kick back to feeling like yourself.

While there's no magic potion to instantly cure a cold or flu, incorporating these soothing and immune-boosting drinks into your routine can certainly provide relief and support your body's natural healing process. From comforting herbal teas full of lemon and ginger, to health-packed concoctions like chai tea, there's a beverage to suit every taste and symptom. Remember to stay hydrated, get plenty of rest, and listen to your body's cues. With the right combination of nourishing drinks and self-care, you'll be back on your feet in no time, ready to tackle whatever the season brings. Stay healthy, stay hydrated, and cheers to wellness!
